IP address is the full form of Internet Protocol address. An internet protocol address or IP address is a numerical number or label that is assigned to each device connected to a computer network and used for communication. An IP address is written in dotted-decimal notation and is sets of numbers separated by a period. Each set representing 8-bit numbers. An IP address generally serves two main functions. Uses of the IP addresses:

  • IP addresses offer users services or advertisements based on their location.
  • Ban users from specific services.
  • The IP address allows the users’ ISP to throttle the internet speed.

Many may question the authenticity of the IP addresses. They can doubt about its working. But IP address can show the geographical location of any user. Anyone can be traced just by locating the exact IP address.

Sometimes people want to hide or change the IP addresses. Some of the reasons are stated below:

  • Traffic encryption prevents anyone from eavesdropping on the user’s account.
  • The physical location can be changed or hidden if the user changes or hides IP addresses.
  • Users can unblock any sites that are banned or blocked.
  • Uses can bypass any geo-restriction. People will be able to watch any streaming sites.
  • Hackers won’t be able to get any information from the user’s online activity.

Many tools help users to hide or change the IP address. VPN, Smart DNS and proxy are some of the internet tools. Among these internet tools, VPN is the most used.

There are many VPNs, DNS, and Proxies in the market. People should choose one after going through the privacy and protocol features of them.
